Martial Arts CM Retrospective

In the martial arts colloquium this semester, we learned about the style and philosophy of various martial arts, including Judo, Aikido, and TKD. I have always liked colloquiums because of the community building aspect. We get to know other people in the community in a relaxed setting with a interesting, default conversation topic. Conversations tend to be excellent in CMs, even when they are not directly related to the topic.

That same benefit is available with all colloquiums, so did I get what I wanted out of the martial arts colloquium specifically? I want to hone my movements, develop my focus in physical situations, and learn about the various martial arts. I didn’t expect to become seriously better in any of these areas due to the time limitations, so I suppose my main hope was to direct any further investigation into martial arts. In that regard, it’s been useful. I have found that I have no interest in several, such as TKD because of the style, but I haven’t yet found any with which I would certainly want to continue. Nonetheless, it was a lot of fun and a nice break from my less active classes. I would probably do the self-defense colloquium next semester if I were to be here.
